"The reality of the other person lies not in what he reveals to you, but what he cannot reveal to you. Therefore, if you would understand him, listen not to what he says, but rather to what he does not say." --Kahlil Gibran

Today was not so bad...

Well, well, well…

November 8, 2006. Not so bad.

I got up this morning feeling tired after having slept only for about 3 hours. Big mid-term today--for which I was researching most of the night. The thing about getting a master’s in literature is that there are no answers that can be memorized; none are concrete. And, because of miscommunication, the professor and I have not really developed a workable relationship. (He thinks he’s “right” and I think I am “right”-er. J

Anywho…while I was driving to work, I was lost in thought about this exam! You know the kind of lost in thought that gets you from point A to point B when you are driving but you don’t remember getting to B? So lost in thought was I that I didn’t see the police officers lights behind me (he later told me he had been following me for 2 miles)! To make a long story short, he let me go with a warning, but not before making me feel like a jerk for disrespecting him. It seems that unlike most drivers who slow down when passing an officer…I had sped up. Hmmmm. Thanks for the warning, sir, and thanks for waking me from my stupor!

School was all right. They were working on rough drafts revisions and I was honest with them about my ability to develop a coherent, teachable thought. The best part is…they worked on their essays and I sat there fielding questions…questions I could answer, teaching I could not…not today.

Damn exam.

I got to the university a little early and went to talk to this professor. I feel so much better for having done so. Seems I connotated his semantic representation less than favorably and for that, he apologized. He said some really nice things and said them in a manner that was not offensive. It set my mind at ease, and felt great going in to take the exam.

I can say this…I KNOW I didn’t get less than a B, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I got an A. I felt really good about the exam…how could I not…I had gotten the best parking spot ever when I got to the university. Doesn’t that mean an A?!

OK…then I got home and fell asleep. And when I awoke…

THE DEMS TOOK THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE!

November 8, 2006 was not so bad.

PS…My Fresno Friends…I am coming for Thanksgiving. Get in Thanksgiving day…leave Monday. Love to see you all. TOKYO here we come.
